Hi guys! Welcome back! I know it’s been a while, and I always vow to post more often, but life has been a little crazy. If you’re new, you should know, my blogs are usually not about fashion or beauty but where we practice a little “real talk”. If you haven’t noticed, I’ve added a new addition to my world, and while she’s my greatest earthly joy, I’ve had to learn a lot about how to balance it all. Truthfully, there were a few weeks where I didn’t do a very good job. Whether it’s a new baby, new job, new marriage, new chapter of your life, maybe you can relate!
So, my first piece of advice is…..don’t be afraid to take the “L”. Honestly, I had no idea what this meant until my employees told me. So, if you need an old person dictionary, it means take a loss. I’ve never truly enjoyed cooking, and I did it strictly out of obligation. Let’s be honest….omg, it’s sooooo much work. Going to the store, coming up with a recipe, chopping, mixing, cooking, clean up. For all of you that feel me….shoutout Urban Cookhouse Family Meal. Healthy and, praise the Lord, no dirty kitchen! If you don’t feel me and just loooove to cook, DM me. I’ll give you my address. I’m getting to my point, I promise. When my little was born, people did what we do in the South. They brought food. They came from near and far and brought food. I don’t think I picked up a pan until she was two months old…not kidding. I was navigating these new waters we call motherhood, and it was wonderful to have the stress of the one thing I don’t enjoy, off my plate. I tried to pick it back up again here and there, but about a month ago, after I started to feel really busy at work again, a lightbulb went off. I went to my husband and very matter of factly said, “ I’ve decided I’m not going to cook anymore. I don’t enjoy it, it’s time consuming, and there are other ways to feed you.” He laughed out loud and simply said, “Okay.”, and that was that! I think he appreciated my honesty. Now, to some of you this may sound terrible, but look, no one is starving. Fortunately, he’s a great cook so he took that weight from me, and it feels great! For you, it may not be cooking, but whatever that small thing is that puts more stress on you than it’s worth, find a way to pass the ball! In a world where we women constantly say “yes”, sometimes you’ve just got to say a very refreshing “no”. You can do it!
This is my second and most important piece of advice….if you’re spiritual and spend time everyday in devotion, worship, or whatever it is, don’t give that up. You have to have that to be your best self. For a while, it was tough to find time, and I used the busyness of motherhood as an excuse. I was trying to juggle my new babe, my wifely duties, my business, a social life, and I wasn’t doing a very good job. I was feeling super overwhelmed with it all when I realized the problem. I wasn’t making time for the MOST important thing. But when would I have time?? If you haven’t experienced motherhood yet, no matter how good and happy your baby, it’s constant. So when could I find time to experience the Utopia of quiet time to myself?? I would have to give up the one thing every new mother covets….sleep. So I did it. I set my alarm for a mere 30 minutes early. You know what? It’s totally worth it. It makes me a better wife, mother, business owner and friend. I feel more centered, at peace, and like I can handle this! So, you can do it girl…find the time! I promise it will pay off.
P.S. Last time I wrote a post like this, I LOVED hearing all of your stories. So, DM me if you can relate! Love you guys, and as always….#staygolden.
Hi all and welcome back! It’s been quite a while since I’ve written, and to be honest, I’ve had a version of this post written for a long time. It is highly personal, which is why I think I’ve subconsciously delayed posting. Through different events and seasons of my life the past couple of years, I believe I have finally began to grasp true faith. That’s something that is beyond hard if you are naturally an obsessive control freak like me, and it took some really tough times for God to teach me that I had to let go. Now, don’t get me wrong! I am still prone to a meltdown or two every now and again, but overall, I’ve come leaps and bounds in relinquishing that control. And it’s the most amazing feeling…..
A couple of years ago, my husband and I decided that it was time to have children. We had been married for a few years, and I think we felt that expectation to make it an immediate part of our plan….God had a different one. We suffered pregnancy losses that (it goes without saying) were extremely difficult, and at the time I of course didn’t understand why. Looking back now, I can see that we probably weren’t really ready, but hind site is 20/20.
It’s hard for me to even tell you all of the ways and how dramatically our lives changed in and after that season. The chain of life-changing events that happened because of that hardship are truly unbelievable now. Without losing you in every little detail, here’s a quick overview. Partly because of the difficulty I was having, my husband decided to leave his career of 10 years because he was constantly traveling, I opened my brick and mortar store, AND we moved. All within less than a year! Want to find a way to make a control freak almost completely unravel? Give her four huge life events in a super short time period. : / It was undoubtably, the hardest year of my life. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a blessing in a big, ugly disguise.
I heard a quote the other day…..”When you have no choice but to turn to God, consider yourself lucky”. The meaning of that isn’t lost on me. Before our pregnancies and these losses, our life was seemingly perfect. My husband had a great job, I didn’t work, we traveled ALL the time without a care in the world and did exactly what we wanted, when we wanted. But truth be told, our life was still empty because we had no real spiritual relationship. God turned our world completely upside down so that he could put it back together. Amongst all the chaos, we had no choice but to trust only in Him. As a result of going through that difficult and crazy season, our marriage has never been stronger, our faith has never been greater, and we now have the most special little girl on the way. Additionally, I have the gift of running this business and my husband is just recently back in his original career field, doing what he loves again. Now, our life isn’t perfect….far from it. But through this whole situation, God taught me (and is somedays still teaching me) to roll with the punches, and to have what pleases Him most…faith.
Believe it or not, looking back, I can actually appreciate the crazy journey. I can see that through the losses, God brought us to a place that I am so thankful for everyday. It taught me to trust God’s timing and His plan, and for a type-A business owner like me, that is priceless. I hope this inspires you to sit back, relax, trust, and to look for God in every situation. P.S. My outfit can of course be found at Golden Hanger (one of the only things I could wear), and my shorts may or may not be buttoned…. : )) Until next time….XO and #staygolden!
Hello again, and Merry Christmas! Hope you all are getting a chance to sit back and soak it all in! Easier said than done, right? It sounds super cliche, but we know that with the hustle and bustle of the season, it can be hard to enjoy all the makings of a cozy Christmas. If your'e like me, you dissect the giving of every gift like you're back in 10th grade biology class. When the truth is, a majority of the female species is insanely happy just to get something pretty.....and maybe even sparkly! So from young to old, from the glam girl to the neutral gal, we believe we have something for everyone.

Multi Zip Backpack Purse (Black or Metallic Gold $52) Velvet Ruffle Top (XS-L $68) Lots of top options in store!

Multi Shimmer Holiday Sweater ($64 S-L) Fur Clutch ($29 Blush, Grey and Black) Fur Wrap ($29 Multiple Colors Available)
FOR THE COMFY QUEEN
First of all, who doesn't LOVE good loungewear? The fact that it's completely stylish right now has to be one of the highlights of 2017. For that one person who lives for cozy comfort, we have just the thing....these sweats are definitely up there on the (insanely) comfy scale! On the Road Sweats ($64-$74 XS-L) Of course, they'll need a hat incase they decide to leave their cozy surroundings on winter break, so why not get them the cutest one ever?? We love this Sparkle Pompom Beanie ($38 White, Mauve, Grey).
We've never met an Erimish Stack we didn't like. At $35 per stack and the ability to make it your own, you can check off all the ladies on your list! (Pictured: Our "Wintergreen" Stack) Ok, we admit....at Golden Hanger we love a little glitz and glam. Ok, a lot of glitz and glam. But with so many sensible sweaters this holiday season, you're sure to find something for all your best girls, no matter their style! Black and White Knit ($68 XS-L)

Between me and you, I try to keep the #basicgirl thing under wraps. I like to think I often march to my own beat, but when it comes to Fall (and Christmas), I’m both hands up….#BASIC! For me, there’s no mood changer greater than opening the back door one morning to finally feel that chill in the air. Pumpkins, warm cups of perfection, and Fall candles are my JAM! Plus, that feeling that Christmas is just around the corner is an absolute BONUS. But most importantly, it’s time to rediscover the other side of the closet. I swear I can hear hymns the first time I flip through those oh so lonely jackets that have been hanging there just waiting to be worn! Without fail, year after year, I’m surprised by those awesome pieces that I totally forgot I had!
At the beginning of the season, I’m normally super inspired! I start picking out outfits the night before and using my creativity to mix different pieces. This leaves me feeling really good about myself and like all of those years of shopping really paid off! (Cue husband's eye roll.) Let’s be honest though, the new eventually wears off and somedays, you just need that go-to uniform. True story, when we were shooting this week, I put on this very outfit (below) and thought, “I want to wear this every single day”. It was easy, chic and comfortable…check, check, check! That inspired to me to share my four Fall essentials with all of you. For me, it's the recipe for the perfect outfit!
If I could wear a sweater 365 days out of the year and not have a heat stroke, I probably would. So, the fact that trendy sweaters are such a craze right now literally makes my year! Shag, Cold Shoulder, Off the Shoulder, Ruffle Sleeves, even One Shoulder…you name it, it’s out there. Invest in some chic, easy sweaters, and you may shave a few minutes off your morning closet ponder.
There’s truly nothing that makes me feel instantly cool like stepping into a pair of coated or leather skinnies. Whether it be jeans, coated denim or a leather legging, I guarantee you'll wear a black skinny more times than you can count! Invest in one or ALL of these and you'll thank yourself. Of course, ALL can be found at Golden Hanger. : )
Versatile Black Booties
So as you can imagine, like most women, I have a plethora of shoes. You name it, I can probably crawl to the back of my closet, dig around a bit, and find it. ; ) However, that perfect black bootie, the one that you can dress up or down, is essential and surprisingly hard to find! That gem of a shoe that you could wear to an important meeting followed by a hot date seems like an urban myth! Think somewhere between over the knee and basic casual bootie. Enter, half calf, snake embossed, suede bootie. They’re also insanely comfy!
The Statement Piece
Okay, okay, I am fully aware that not all of you would wear a piece of burgundy fur draped over your shoulder. Truthfully, on a daily basis, neither would I (but isn’t it pretty??). I am however, a firm believer in the fact that wearing 3 pieces just makes an outfit look more polished and complete. Invest in a practical jacket, fun vest, or chunky scarf (or all three) and you're good to go, girl!
All pieces pictured can be found at Golden Hanger now! Call us or DM to order! Until next time….....
Hey guys! Thanks for tuning in. This post is not about fashion or beauty, as most of my blog posts may not be. I see this as a forum to be raw and personal. I’m by no means the authority on maintaining your sanity, and any shrink may tell you to never read any of my posts again, but these are just a few things that work for me. Of course, this post is not limited to small businesses, stores, blogs or fashion, but to anything that consumes the majority of your time/life! Hope you find this entertaining and possibly useful! Xo
A couple of nights a week around 6:30, you can find me horizontal, on the couch, in my pjs, watching TV or reading. This is MY time. All day, I focus on trying to make everything pretty and perfect, and I might as well be disabled because my phone is pretty much permanently glued to my left hand. Nope, not after I walk through that door. The phone goes on charge and the laptop is off, and I sometimes even go into what I like to refer to as my “zombie state”. Definition: You tune out every thought and tune in to something that gives your brain complete rest. My media of choice…Housewives or basically anything on Bravo, but you can pick your poison. I know, I know, it doesn’t sound productive at all, but if you never turn off and recharge, the batteries die. Like clock work, the next morning, I wake refreshed and the creative juices are flowing again! P.S. Do ya'll like my Carrie Bradshaw wanna be moment below? ; )
Find your cheerleaders.
Overtime, you learn who to talk to about what’s going on in your life. Not everyone will be encouraging or build you up, and sometimes, that’s exactly what you need. Find your support system and seek them out when you need a pat on the back! Thankfully, my husband is truly my BIGGEST cheerleader. Not my only cheerleader, but my biggest. When I come to him with concern or frustrations about my business, or anything really, he allows me to vent, but I already know what his response will be….”It doesn’t even matter babe because you're always one step ahead…you’ve got this”. Verbatim. Truthfully, I don't really know what this means, but God bless his soul….I’m glad HE thinks I’ve got it all figured out! Find your cheerleaders and keep em’ close.
Treat yo’ self.
Every Friday, I pay myself. Monetarily, yes, but what I’m talking about is a little more tangible. It’s my belief that it’s just too much to ask to work, work, work, just to see all of that fly out the window for bills, gas, groceries….boring, boring, boring! I’m not talking about cleaning out the mall every Friday, but treat yourself to a mani and frozen yogurt or maybe a nice new top or accessory from The Golden Hanger! ; ) Kidding, but not really.
Now this one gets a little more serious, but I try to begin everyday by clearing my mind and centering myself before I do anything else. Well, almost anything else….coffee first, always coffee first. For me, quiet time and prayer took practice, and it's something that I had to learn to do over time, but I try not to begin a day without it. Paired with a devotional, it puts everything into perspective, and magically, my morning grumpiness fades! Well, most of the time. After I punch the clock, chances are my day won’t be perfect, in fact, sometimes it may feel plain awful! But through my growing relationship with Him, I can peacefully rest my head knowing that He’s got this!
Thanks for taking a ride on my sanity train! Hope you enjoyed! If you need to discuss further, come plop on our pink, leopard couch…we charge $100 an hr. Until next time…..Xoxo and #staygolden
Yay! We are so excited to officially launch the new and (hopefully) improved Golden Hanger site! We've done our best to make it fun and user friendly, and added new features to make shopping our new arrivals so much more efficient. I began the Golden Hanger journey exclusively online, so while our site has been on the back burner, I've felt such a responsibility and urgency to get it back up and running for you guys who have been with me since the beginning. I'm so thankful for every one of our followers and hope you all love the new improvements! Incase you're new to GH, below I'm sharing just a bit about our journey since opening the brick and mortar last year.
The one year anniversary of our first brick and mortar store is quickly approaching and I can't BELIEVE it! Time really does fly! This past year has been an absolute trip, a blast, a roller coaster of emotions, and A LOT of hard work! Constant hard work....but I wouldn't change it for anything. Real talk, being a business owner is TOUGH and I totally commend anyone who does it. Thank goodness I survived the first year, only with a lot of prayer and my LOVE for this business. ; ) It doesn't hurt that since opening my brick and mortar, I've had some wonderful and inspirational people placed in my path: the cutest staff (see below), the best photographer and inspirational friends. God is good...can I get an Amen??
I'm so grateful to be living one of my dreams and that we've done what I set out to do. My goal since the beginning has been to provide cute, contemporary styles that don't send your paycheck flying. Not to pat myself on the back, but I've drank, eaten and probably slept in "The Golden Koolaid" to make sure that happened. I hope that we continue to bring you guys styles and brands you love!
All items featured are from The Golden Hanger. Find them on our site in our Instashop soon! (Slate Velvet Tank sold out) Until next time....XO and #staygolden
